About the lesson

The narrative of the story is a junior assistant clerk in a law firm. he is sent to a town to serve summons to a man named Lutkins. on reaching that town he meets a cartman. the cartman takes him around the town in search of Lutkins. But Lutkins is now where to be found. The narrator returns to the city. next day he is against sent to the town with the man who recognizes Lutkins. He sees the cartman at the platform. the Man with him tell the card man is Lutkins himself. the narrator feels befooled.

Ans. Wherever they go, Lutkins asked the lawyer to keep behind him. this gives him a chance to signal the people to share his plan. He manipulates the lowest tour in other ways too. he takes him to a hilltop and spends an hour there. then he takes him to his mother's farm. 3 miles away. he makes his mother frighten the lawyer. he makes him pass time away from the crowd of the village. all these places, there is no danger of his identity been disclosed. does he keep him away from the village where his secret might be disclosed?


Q3. Why do you think Lutkins’ neighbors were anxious to meet the lawyers?

Ans. Lutkins had befooled the lawyer in the whole village. almost all people had enjoyed this joke of Lutkins. these neighbors were the only paper who had missed seeing the lawyer. so they were anxious to meet him.


Q4. After his first-day experience with the hack driver, the lawyer thinks of returning to new million to practice law? do you think he would have considered this idea after his second visit?

Ans. Thought of returning to a new Mullian because he found the people there very simple. but his second visit discloses to him that they were really very clever people. so he must have considered his idea of returning to a new mullion.

Ans. I do think that the lawyer was gullible.had he been worldly-wise, he would have avoided being taken for a ride. he should not have trusted by stranger blindly. he should have been first enquiring about Lutkins, not bill.

Q1. Do we come across persons like Lutkins only in fiction or do we encounter them in real life as well? you can give example from fiction or narrate an accident that you have read a newspaper or an accident from real life?

Ans. The word abounds in cunning people. these people enjoy being fooling others and take advantage of their being simplistic. we encounter people like Lutkin’s real life as well. I read about one such incident in the newspaper. the two people came to our house. they told me that they would clean old jewelry. the woman of the house brought her jewelry out. the man mixes the powder with a little water and dips the jewelry in it. a few minutes later they handed over dazzling jewelry to the women. the men have gone, the jewelry was found to be fake. the man had played with the original jewelry.

Q2. Who is A ‘Con man’ or confidence trickster?

Ans. A con man or a confidence trickster is the person who first wins our confidence then it fools us. we begin to trust him so much that we easily fall prey to his tricks. He is an expert at deceiving people.
